Web Projects

Thursday, April 17, 2008

I am working on a really large project right now, that I cannot disclose. I have always wanted to have top secret info smile. I am dealing with managing 3 different groups which has large challenges in and of its self. I am learning to use a really great project tool called Omniplan which is making life a lot easier. I now have the ability to manipulate independent project process and see all corresponding changes to all other dependent milestones. I have always used Base Camp for external communications, but have needed an internal communication tool for quite some time. I had a very short time frame to get this product but have been looking into different products for quite some time. It does not meet every requirement on my list, however I have wanted to evaluate it for quite a while. The price tag is not to steep in comparison too many other programs out there which aided in the decision.

I also have a bit of a background with OmniGraffle which I have used for wire framing new layouts and also creating flow charts for CMS setups. I find it is a great communication tools and really simple to use. I would recommend the Omni family of product based on my past experience to any Mac user. With that history why not give OmniPlan a shot. It took a bit of arm twisting to get the purchase through but enough pleases will get you far in life.

I am also excited about the ability of Omniplans HTML output capabilities. This allows for the project manager to output an HTML age with the latest project gant chart, percent complete, and ical access for all project members. I hope this helps make things go smoothly. I

I will try to complete a further review in the future.

Trapped in New York

Wednesday, April 09, 2008

I think I may be trapped in New York for the weekend. American Airlines has grounded most of its flights leaving me with the possibility of no way home. I guess there could be worse places to be stuck.

Forward Thinking

Monday, March 03, 2008

This time of year always drags me into a strange place. Sensations of spring start to strike the core as the weather toys with my emotions. Tax returns come back and money decisions strike a chord of responsibility versus pleasure, and the longing to ride a mountain bike strikes me in a big way. I am currently thinking forward to the start of a new bike season and laying out the ground work for fun! I am thinking that this year I will mix some MTB racing with some road racing. I would like to keep from traveling a ton and spend a bit more time in the great city of Madison if at all possible. I will be traveling further this year I am guessing as I am planning on hitting a few NORBA races but I would like to hit a few more road races instead of the further away WORS races. I am excited to being racing for Mongoose this year but wish it didn’t mean I had to leave Michael’s Cycles I really like them all and wish I could race for both. It will be strange not having any real teammates to speak of. We will see how that goes.

Platteville MTB TT

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Yesterday marked the first Mountain Bike Race of the year. I have been reading blogs of all the west coast kids racing and have been jealous for quite some time. The trails have been muddy and racing was a while off. But a sunny 70+ degree day and some sweet single track knocked out that urge.

The course was a combination of single track and uhh single track. This tight fast course offered up some great climbs and some wicked descents. I took off 30 seconds behind Neil and ripped it the hole way. I felt good and the legs where there about a mile into the race I could see my first pickoff. Neil was just around the corner and I was push a good pace. I held this pace for most of the first lap and settled in a little for the second half of the first lap and first half of the second lap. I steadily picked off a rider here and there and got a good feel for the bike. About 3/4 of the way through the final lap I saw Carlos gaining on me and I decided to try to hang with his pace. It was slightly higher then mine but just enough to hurt pretty bad. I pogo ed off his blazing pace to the finish and then slammed a bunch of water. Neil was just ahead of me and congratulated me for beating him before I even got off my bike. What! your kidding right?

Well if Neil only would have known they screwed up the results and didn’t mark me as finishing, I DNFed first time I ever DNFed after the race was over smile
